I’m stunned. It’s very strange to even conceive of Manchester United without Roy Keane, but Soccernet reports that this is now a reality:
Roy Keane has sensationally left Manchester United by mutual consent, the club announced today.
A statement released by the Old Trafford outfit confirmed that their long-serving captain has departed with immediate effect after it became clear that his future at the club was untenable.
Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville are all that’s left of the treble winning Red Devil team that once terrorized the Premiership. Roy Keane was the glue and midfield tyrant that held that team together and let Mancheser United unleash a relentless brand of attacking football that won championship after championship. True, this powerhouse incarnation of United is no longer. But it’s still difficult to watch one of the last linchpins of that team slip away.
Goodbye Keano, you were the finest midfielder, captain and champion that Manchester United has ever had.
