A popular protest movement has only really arrived when it inspires counter-revolutionary reaction.

Case in point: today, November 25th, 2005 is Buy Nothing Day. Having grown increasingly weary of the culture jammer/adbusters manifesto over the last few years, I’ve decided to begin Christmas shopping today.

Yes, that’s right, tonight I’m not just buying gifts, I’m protesting Buy Nothing Day.¹

Take that you hemp-sandled hippies!

¹ Please not that I’m not even a remotely frequent consumer. So this protest should be not be interpreted as an inablity to control my compulsive urges. In fact, this may be the hardest protest I’ve ever undertaken: going to a shopping mall wilfully.
