It seems that there is a simple and effective way to trump the efforts of any protest: Light yourself on fire. According to the CBC, that’s exactly what happened in Ottawa when “A man doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire during a standoff with police outside the Ontario legislature, overshadowing a nearby protest by hundreds of farmers.

Think whatever you like about the tactic, but nothing puts a bigger exclamation point on your cry for attention better than self-immolation.¹

Now if only we can get some politicians to take this anti-protest technique to heart…
