I’m not an über-typography-geek, but I have been known to go on the odd typeface-bender every now or then. My most recent round of font research led me to the pleasant discovery of Behind the Typeface: Cooper Black. Who knew that a flash movie about the circuitous career of a popular typeface could be so amusing? Even if you’ve never heard of Cooper Black, Cheshire’s Dave’s piopic about the font “for far-sighted printers with near-sided customers” is cheeky enough to merit a viewing.
Now, if only someone could expose the clandestine intrigue surrounding Palatino’s recent1 porting into a knock-off digital format2…
1 Actually, it first happened about a decade ago, but that’s nothing in typography years.
2 Gasp!
