There is a growing voice calling for the US Postal Service to issue a postage stamp in honour of Isaac Asimov. Led by the people behind The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, supporters of the Asimov stamp are conducting a letter-writing campaign to make licking the authour's backside a reality. The Citizen's Stamp Advisory Committee, to which the letters are addressed, is responsible for answering the public's call for commemorative items and will, hopefully, be able to appreciate Asimov's contribution to the arts and sciences.
Isaac Asimov may just be the most prolific authour in all history. The ideas explored in Asimov's works still arise and dominate discussion in many of the fields that he wrote about. Obvioulsy, it's hard to escape consideration of anthropomorphic robots without also thinking about the axiomatic laws necessary to govern their behaviour.
A versitile authour, Asimov's reach was not confined to science fiction. According to Wikipedia, "he has works in every major category of the Dewey Decimal System except Philosophy"--and Asimov's omission from that category is an irony that most of his fans can chuckle about.
A postage stamp in honour of Isaac Asimov is a no-brainer. Heck, if Ayn Rand can get a stamp, certainly Isaac Asimov should adorn postage too.
