Each passing year provides something new to dread about cigarettes. Correspondingly, my sense that deathsticks represent the world's most nefarious experiment with social darwinism grows larger and larger as well. The ??BBC?? is reporting that "smoking damages almost all aspects of sexual, reproductive and child health." Sounds like a no-brainer right? Smoking is bad for you after all. But the British study cited in the article is stunning in its finding regarding the correlation between smoking and corrosive decay in every significant aspect of human fertility. That's right, not only is smoking bad for prospective parents, but "men who want to continue to enjoy sex should forget about lighting up given the strong evidence that smoking is a major cause of male sexual impotence." No wonder the Marlboro Man never smiles. What do we learn from these findings? We learn that there's no need to be unduly cruel to a person who billows like a chimney as he strolls past the Newborns Ward. Smokers are literally puffing themselves out of the gene pool anyway.
