I regularly read the Guardian Unlimited for its coverage of breaking news and indepth special reports. Occasionally, I surf about the site, looking for topics and columns that may grab my attention. Imagine my surprise then when I came across this snippet in a Naomi Klein column regarding the Philippine government clandestinely terrorizing its citenzery for international sympathy:

While all eyes have been on Iraq, there has been a leap in terrorist bombings in Mindanao. Now, post-mutiny, the question is: who was responsible for these? The government blames the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The mutinous soldiers point the finger back at the military and the government, saying that by inflating the terrorist threat, they are rebuilding the justification for more US aid and intervention.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front is also known as MILF for short. How annoyed would militants like this be to discover that their groups' acronym strikes churlish giggling amongst immature North Americans?
Like most things in terribly bad taste, if you can't find the humour in that unfortunate acronym, then you might best be off finishing the rest of Anne of Green Gables or pursuing activity of similar quaintness.
